Dionysus
Project type
Exhibition Design
Date
2021
Location
Edinburgh
The brief for this project was to design an exhibition that displays two Dionysus statues. The first statue represents his fiery birth and the second depicts him grown up, so the exhibition takes the visitor on a journey. I was inspired by his role as the Greek God of wine and partying, so I designed the exhibition to simulate a drunken experience. This explains the uneven stairs and floor surfaces.
As Dionysus had a fiery birth, I designed a haze of red light at the start of the exhibit to highlight the significance of this in his story. There are also a series of curved mirrors, arranged seemingly randomly in the space, to create more confusion and a sense of unease / drunkenness.
